Conception Date Calculator

Estimate your conception window and fertile window from your last menstrual period or due date. Understand why conception date cannot be determined precisely.

Why Conception Date Cannot Be Determined Precisely

This is the most important thing to understand about this calculator: conception date cannot be determined precisely from LMP or due date.

There are too many unknowns:

  • Sperm can survive in the reproductive tract for up to 5 days
  • The egg is viable for only 12-24 hours after ovulation
  • Ovulation can vary from cycle to cycle, even in people with regular cycles
  • The exact moment of fertilization cannot be observed without medical intervention

BabyCenter states this plainly: "It's impossible to calculate the conception date precisely. There are too many unknowns."

What we can do is estimate a fertile window — the days when conception is most likely — and an approximate conception date based on average cycle patterns.

The Calculation

Ovulation date = LMP + (cycle length − 14)

This assumes ovulation occurs about 14 days before the next expected period. For a 28-day cycle, this is day 14. For a 32-day cycle, this is day 18.

Fertile window = 5 days before ovulation to 1 day after ovulation

This accounts for sperm survival (up to 5 days) and egg viability (12-24 hours).

Estimated conception date = ovulation date

This is the most likely single date, but conception could have occurred anywhere in the fertile window.

How Accurate Is This?

The estimate is most accurate if:

  • Your cycles are regular
  • You know the date of your last period
  • You are not currently breastfeeding or have recently stopped hormonal contraception

If you know the date of conception (for example, from IVF or known intercourse), you can calculate your due date more precisely: due date = conception date + 266 days.

When to Talk to Your Clinician

Contact your healthcare provider if:

  • You are trying to conceive and have questions about timing
  • Your cycles are irregular
  • You have been trying to conceive for 12 months (or 6 months if you are over 35)
  • You have questions about your due date
